Advanced Technology
Center
Advantage
Valley President Mike Herron joined Andrew
Dunlap (Charleston Alliance) Gary Walton
(Putnam County Development Authority) and
Heather Vanater (Putnam County Development
Authority) in an informational meeting
arranged by the Community and Technical
College System of West Virginia to share
thoughts regarding a new Technology Center
being planned for the Advantage Valley
region.
At Gov. Joe
Manchin’s request last year, the West
Virginia Legislature approved legislation
that would establish two advanced technology
centers in West Virginia—one in the North
Central region and one in Advantage Valley.
The purpose
of the advanced technology centers is to
provide advanced instruction to meet the
current and future demand for occupations
requiring technical skills; address skills
needed for emerging and high technology
industries in addition to training and
retraining personnel for West Virginia’s
existing and new industries.
The Advantage
Valley region boasts three outstanding
community and technical colleges—WVU Tech
CTC, West Virginia State CTC and Marshall
Community and Technical College.
